Job Description:
A non-profit, unincorporated association in the property and casualty auto insurance industry is seeking a Director of Operations. This newly created role will serve as an integral member of the association’s senior leadership team, overseeing the daily operations of the claims department. The successful candidate will work closely with the executive director to shape and execute strategic policies and initiatives that align with the association’s long-term goals. This executive will lead and develop a team of claims professionals, with accountability for hiring, coaching and performance management. The Director of Operations will drive continuous improvement and lead the modernization of claims operations, with a strong focus on leveraging technology, automation and data to enhance outcomes. The ideal candidate will also act as a key change agent, spearheading transformation initiatives that improve operational efficiency, elevate service delivery and strengthen organizational adaptability. This is a retained search.

Responsibilities:
  • Oversee the day-to-day operations of the claims department, including the collection and reimbursement of claims to member companies.
  • Collaborate with the executive director and assistant executive director to develop and implement claims-related policies, procedures, guidelines and systems.
  • Evaluate the effectiveness of the association’s claims system, prioritizing and sponsoring enhancements based on staff and member feedback to improve efficiency and usability.
  • Ensure alignment of project deliverables with the organization’s strategic goals; provide regular project updates to the board and committee members.
Requirements:
  • 12+ years of experience in the property and casualty insurance industry, with a strong focus on claims management and operational leadership
  • Extensive knowledge of auto insurance products, with specialized expertise in personal injury protection
  • Executive leadership experience with a demonstrated ability to lead, mentor and manage people leaders effectively
  • Proven track record of leading continuous improvement initiatives, including system upgrades and optimizing operational efficiency
  • Bachelor’s degree required; advanced degree (preferred)
